Hats off to Art of Where
I love the "idea" of screen-printing art on fabrics. I often daydream of an unrealized talent in textiles, but alas I have neither the time nor the patience to follow through on such a pipedream. Arts
Call & Response: Chonilla
Call & Response is a series of Q&As with bands, artists and random people we dig that live in Montreal, visit here, or have some dubious connection to the city. There's a new podcast in town. Sherley and Clove are two Montrealers who've been city-hopping for years but have finally landed back in our fair city. Together, they go by Chonilla and they host a randomly scheduled podcast they describe as a "hilarious talk show about a no-holds barred interracial couple of 15+ yrs in their mid-30's who talks about EVERYTHING from a black white perspective while the kids are asleep." With a setup like that, I was expecting a racy romp, like what you'd get if you put Chris Rock and Andrew Dice Clay in the same room, but the show focuses more on the everyday-ness of their relationship, their lives, and their perspective on local and international events, peppered with a dose of profanity and other mature content. Ultimately though, it's a very candid podcast; as listeners, we're privy to their personal discussions and to the nuances of their relationship. Given that they're trying to spread the word about their show here in their new digs, we thought we'd ask them some of life's most important questions:

Smart Design Mart - The Answer to your Holiday Shopping Woes (THIS WEEKEND)
Like most individuals, I struggle with Holiday shopping. It isn't because I don't like shopping, or that I'm not good at it (just the opposite actually). The problem is, I'm incredibly critical of myself and of what I give to others. I want to give that "Wow!" gift. The one that everyone turns and says "OOH I wish I thought of that" and "OMG CHERYL! Where did you even find that?" But let's be honest here kids, that reaction is a rarity and really, who has enough time to put in all that effort to find that one special gift? That's right. No one does. And there just haven't been any events held in Montreal that could possible fulfill this unselfish need. Arts
THIS FRIDAY: Reality TV meets Performance Art in battle of personalities
It's tough to try and find the right words to promote something with 'Reality TV' in the description without giving off those same really awful vibes I feel when someone mentions Jersey Shore. And yet the latest project from Montreal live art collective MAP (Mind, Action, and Personality) has inspired me to write something quite positive about the Third Episode of their reality-tv series (named MAP: Season One), showing this Friday @ the Mainline Theatre at 9:00pm.Film, Arts
ANIMAZE - A film festival of rare gems
Fresh off her recent stint with En Masse at Nuit Blanche 2011, Midnight Poutine Guest contributor Cheryl Voisine is back in town and out to cover what's good in the Montreal Art Scene. Last weekend, she set out to cover the first ever ANIMAZE festival, and this is how she felt about it.The more I think about Animaze, the more I wonder why it took so long for someone to arrive at the concept. As children, we loved animation, thrived on it, learned valuable life lessons through it. But somehow along the path to adulthood most of us left it behind. The festival itself is designed to reignite our passion by unveiling the grittier, sexier, and more intricate side of modern adult animation. Animaze was a once in a lifetime opportunity to see animations that are hard to come by in North America, and may never be shown again in theatres.

PREVIEW: ANIMAZE - Montreal's Animation Film Festival
Fresh off her recent stint with En Masse at Nuit Blanche 2011, Midnight Poutine Guest contributor Cheryl Voisine is back in town and out to cover what's good in the Montreal Art Scene. This week, she's out covering the first ever Animaze Animation Festival. As an illustrator, the world of animation holds a warm spot in my heart. Considering the large amount of inspiration it has provided me over the years I was thrilled to hear about the Animaze Animation Festival taking place this coming weekend at Cinéma du Parc (Friday) as well as Concordia (Saturday & Sunday). This is a great opportunity for cartoon lovers to relive their childhood years and bridge the gap towards adult contemporary animation. Basically, if you're tired of Disney and Pixar and you want something more than your average cartoon, this is for you.
